Ribbit Rogue Steam 1.0 Launch
Five years, one frog, a color campaign.
King Krab Games announced a 3 September 2026 Steam date in mid-July, shipped a new trailer, and then actually hit the date. Some storefronts and press (AUTOMATON) list 4 September depending on timezone. The important part: Ribbit Rogue is out. This page is the 1.0 delta — what you get that the demo did not, and what you should not expect.
The box on the doorstep
- Price: $9.99, 20% off at launch ($7.99) through 17 September 2026.
- Platform: Windows Steam. Full controller support. Steam Deck endorsed by the developer. No Mac/Linux listing.
- Mode: Single-player only. No co-op.
- Toys: Three characters, 120-plus relics, six bosses, 30-plus enemies, Swamp Depth, 32 achievements, Steam Cloud.
- Languages: Eleven UI languages on the store page.
- Demo: Still downloadable (app 4436220) so friends can test the loop.
The July trailer is the one embedded on the homepage. The older “putting it on Steam” video on this page is the honest production diary: Lua Playdate SDK to a PC port that is not a 1:1 copy. New dice, relics, abilities, enemies, bosses, events, and map locations were always the pitch.
What 1.0 adds over a spring demo
If your last session was Turn Based Thursday in March, 1.0 is not a skin. The demo began with one character and one area. 0.4 opened area two and dumped relics into the branch. 1.0 sells the whole sentence: all three frogs, the Depth ladder, the remaining bosses, and a campaign you can finish. Japanese localization, already in the later demo, remains. Crit-on-shields, the forge, and the ten-die cap did not change. Your muscle memory still works. Your map does not.
Progress from the demo was advertised as carrying dice and relic unlocks into the full game. After install, check that your Steam Cloud save still has those unlocks before you replay the tutorial on purpose.
Swamp Depth is the post-campaign
Depth is not a second campaign. It is modifiers: stronger enemies, less gold from fights, higher shop prices. It exists because a ten-die puzzle needs a way to stay sharp after you can sequence Twin in your sleep. Climb it after a base-difficulty win, not as a first run. The run planner has a Depth checkbox for a reason.
What 1.0 is not
It is not a live-service with weekly codes. It is not a co-op swamp. It is not a mobile port (the developer has deflected that question for years). It is not a 1-bit Playdate ROM with a Steam wrapper — the art is color pixel, the HUD has crit percent and rarity borders, Herc has a shop. If you owned the Playdate version, you are buying a bigger game, not a skin.
Launch-week player jobs
- Play the Hero. Read getting started.
- Finish one base run before Depth.
- Bookmark combat and forging.
- Watch Steam news for a 1.0.1. Solo devs patch hover bugs and deadzones; 0.4.2 already proved that instinct.
- Join the Discord from links if a boss name gets datamined and this wiki has not caught up.
The five-year joke is over. The swamp is on sale. Go roll four dice and spend them in the right order. That is the whole 1.0 review that matters, and the review page exists if you still need permission.
