Ribbit Rogue Characters

Three frogs, three starting relics, one ten-die budget.

Characters Hub

Steam 1.0 ships three playable characters. King Krab Games promised this during the demo year: each frog gets a starting relic plus some unique dice, abilities, and relics. The store page does not print their proper names. Official screenshots do print their faces. This hub describes what we can see and what the demo taught about the starter, then sends you to the Hero page for the first-run specialist.

This category is labeled Characters in the nav on purpose. Ribbit Rogue is single-player. There is no other “player” to invite.

The Hero (green frog)

Cape, sword, tired grin on the Steam header. Demo VODs call this frog the Hero and show a 75 HP bar with a five-point heal after each battle as the starting relic. That refund is why the Hero is the right first character: you can take a chip-damage fight, visit a forge, and not bleed out between nodes. Crit HUD in screenshots sits at 5%. Starting gold in one Next Fest recording was 25. Full write-up: the Hero.

The wizard frog (blue hat)

A purple frog in a starry hat appears in a Steam screenshot against a 350 HP golem, sitting at 90/90 with five rerolls and a row of mage-coded dice (wand, scythe, tome). We will not invent a name. What the art suggests: higher life or a relic that raised it, a reroll-rich kit, and a pool that wants Pocket Watch and Twin more than Medkit. Play this frog after you can sequence Quick and Slow in your sleep. Extra rerolls are wasted if you still slam four random faces.

The armored frog (helmet)

A magenta frog in a helmet faces three crabs at 60/60 with three rerolls and a mixed bar (bow, trophy, flask, spear). Lower visible HP than the wizard shot, heavier sprite. This is the tank-shaped frog. Shield-crit builds from the build guide belong here. Medkit belongs here. Cracked Sword’s opening Weakness does not, unless you like starting a 60 HP fight already taxed.

Unlock order

Demo notes said only the starting character was available at first. 1.0 includes all three. If a frog is locked, finish a run on the Hero — that is the usual indie pattern, and this wiki will not invent an XP gate that Steam did not print. When you can choose freely:

  1. Hero until you have beaten area one.
  2. Wizard frog when you want a reroll engine and already read combat.
  3. Armored frog when you want to practice shield-crit and boss telegraphs.

Shared rules

All three still have a ten-die cap. All three still draw seven and roll four. All three still forge, shop at Herc, and climb Swamp Depth. Unique dice are seasoning. If a unique die has two blanks, it is still a forge problem. Character identity is the starting relic plus a handful of faces, not a different genre.

How to pick for a seed

  • Need a teacher? Hero.
  • Found Blacksmith Hammer early on a previous run and want more edits? Any frog; Hammer is not character-locked in the patch notes.
  • Found a pile of Crit capsules? Armored frog or Hero, not a glass kit.
  • Found Twin Die? Wizard frog if the extra rerolls in that screenshot are typical of the kit.

When King Krab Games publishes the actual names, this hub will use them. Until then, pick by portrait and starting relic, not by a fan wiki’s guess. Then lock a sentence from the builds page and stop swapping frogs mid-Depth just because the hat looks cooler.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many characters are in Ribbit Rogue?

Three in Steam 1.0. The demo launched with one. Each has a starting relic and some unique dice.

What are their names?

The starter is called the Hero in demo recordings. The other two are not named on the Steam page; this wiki describes them by the official portraits.

Is Ribbit Rogue multiplayer?

No. Single-player only. Characters are alternate frogs, not other people.

Who should I play first?

The Hero. The post-battle heal forgives routing mistakes while you learn getting started.
